As a Catholic school, we give our children opportunities to be involved in the life and work of their parish, their local community and the universal church. Throughout the year, children help, and raise funds for, many different charities, such as CAFOD, Willowbrook Hospice and Macmillan.
The Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes
February 11 is the date that marks the first apparition of Our Lady in 1858 to fourteen-year-old Bernadette Soubirous in Lourdes, France. Between February 11 and July 16, 1858, Our Lady appeared eighteen times, and showed herself to Bernadette in the hollow of the rock at Lourdes. This feast day is a time for us to remember and pray for those that we know who are not well either in their body or mind.
Ss Peter & Paul has started a tradition of being involved in the Archdiocese of Liverpool's annual pilgrimage to Lourdes by supporting the young people of Coach Three - St. Helens. These young people spend a week helping those pilgrims who are elderly, frail or not very well for their pilgrimage to honour Our Lady of Lourdes.
The Feast of The Presentation - February 2nd 2018
Forty days after Christmas Day, the church celebrates this feast in which we remember when Mary and Joseph took baby Jesus to the Temple to give thanks for their son. Whilst at the Temple, they met Simeon and Anna, elderly and holy people, who both realised that Jesus was God's son or The Messiah. Today is also called Candlemas Day when candles are blessed in church for the coming year. According to an old tradition for Christians in Europe, this day marked the halfway point of Winter and the blessing of candles allowed them to look forward to the coming of Spring.
