The government introduced a Year 1 phonics screening check.
The test checks six-year-olds’ ability to read aloud a mixture of 40 real and made-up words, sounding them out using the phonics system.
In 2015/16, 83.3% of the children passed.
This is higher than the national picture of 81%.
In KS1 pupils take home a range of books from various schemes. The reading schemes used within the KS1 classes are listed underneath.
In KS2 pupils follow the Oxford Reading Tree scheme.
