Upper Juniors

Year 5 Boot Camp

We had a boot camp today to learn how to be more resilient. We had to work together, communicate with each other and realise it is ok if we fail at first.

Forces 

Year 5 have been studying 'Forces' in their Science this term. We wanted to investigate whether the size of a parachute affected the air resistance created. We made parachutes of different sizes and then timed the parachutes falling. We learned about fair testing, accurate measuring and averages.

The Lighthouse

Year 5 wrote newspaper reports and stories about a lighthouse keeper. We watched a short film about his disastrous night, then had to role play different characters from the story and interview each other for information. We also looked at how to write great headlines.

Palm Oil

Year 5 used the Greenpeace film (There's a Rang-Tan in My Bedroom) to discuss the importance of looking after our world. We found out about the dangers of deforestation and what we can all do to help.

Year 5 have been studying North America in their Geography lessons. They researched New York and found out some fascinating facts.

We investigated the connection between weight and mass. We learned about Sir Isaac Newton and used a range of forcemeters.

Cash Quest for Young Carers

We made a donation to Young Carers. We raised over £120 for the Young Carers and we have been invited to an awards ceremony as a result.

PSHE: Crucial Crew, December 2019

We went to the 'Totally Wicked' stadium in St Helens to learn all about keeping safe. We listened to talks on internet safety, road safety, rail safety and also found out how to make a 999 call. We learned some basic first aid skills.

Living Things and Their Habitats

We took on the role of wildlife documentary presenters. Our teams had to research the life cycle of different living things and the way they reproduce. We wrote a script and then presented it to the class.

Food Technology

The Upper Juniors designed and made their own 'Rainbow Wraps'. They discussed the nutritional value of the different vegetables.

Year 5 Science Investigation

Year 5 wanted to find out how to keep their water cold. They looked at different materials and measured the water temperature at 5 minute intervals.

Remembrance Day, November 2019

Isabel's great grandfather passed away in October at the age of 96. During the second world war he was in the navy. Here are his British medals showing where he had been in the navy, and also a French medal.
